Did Korea declare its independence from China in 1876?

First of all, the name of the country that ruled the Korean peninsula back in the 1800s is Joseon, not Korea. Also, the description states as if Joseon was not an independent country. Joseon was a independent country, but Qing had been trying to interfere in Joseon’s domestic affairs. In 1876 when Joseon and Japan concluded the Japan-Korea Treaty of 1876(a.k.a. Ganghwa Treaty), there was a clause stating that Joseon had equal rights with Japan as a sovereign state, which was put in by Japan to prevent the Qing Dynasty from intervening in Joseon in advance. Interpreting this clause of the treaty as if Joseon were not independent is far from the truth.
