In South Korea, various attempts have been made to develop a more acceptable system, the latest of which was introduced in 2000, ousting McCune-Reischauer from all official publications, road signs, and similar material. Many English speakers do not like the new system because it throws up unfamiliar and unsightly combinations of letters and can lead to as many mispronounciations as McCune-Reischauer-the surname “Pak” (Park), for example, becomes “Bag”; “tongnip”, independence, becomes “dogrib”; and the province of Cholla bukdo, “jeollabuk-do.” However, there is strong government pressure to use it and it is now ubiquitous in South Korea. What is wrong with the content?

This description is just author’s personal opinion. Even the author’s examples are wrong. For surname 박, Bak, Pak, Park are all used. 독립 independence is “dongnip”, not “dogrib”.
The entire McCune-Reischauer system used in this book is incorrect, and this system will only intensify the confusion of pronouncing Korean words for people learning Korean language.
Even though this book was written in 2021, it does not accept any of the Revised Romanization system which has been used since 2000.
About the errors regarding ‘Incheon International Airport’, it used its name as ‘Incheon International Airport’ since its opening in 2001, but this book describes it as ‘Inch’on’, and for sure, the airport never used the term ‘Inch’on’.
