Was Joseon not an independent country back in 1800s? | Was there a Korean civil war in 1894?

First of all, the name of the country that ruled the Korean peninsula back in the 1800s is Joseon, not Korea. Also, the description states as if Joseon was not an independent country. Joseon was a independent country, but Qing had been trying to interfere in Joseon’s domestic affairs. In 1876 when Joseon and Japan concluded the Japan-Korea Treaty of 1876(a.k.a.
